What Makes Rob Tick?

Rob was born in a mining village in the Eastern part of the old Transvaal of apartheid South Africa and the mine’s claim to fame was the discovery of The Cullinan Diamond, one of the world’s most coveted gemstones. Rob spent time in mining towns until the death of his father when he was ten. Much of his writing has been influenced by this and other losses when he was a young man. He believes that there is a world without death and suffering where all creatures are loved and treasured and justice always triumphs.

Rob was a diligent and obedient youngster until hormones came like a sledgehammer and struck all the goodness out of him. He became a terrible treacherous teenager who did all the unwise things a normal young adult would avoid. This form of piracy led him into the restaurant trade and its myriad of bad behaviour. So, writing about piracy comes naturally to him. Alas, life caught up with him and medical issues ended his tyrannical reign in the hospitality trade. He and his wife moved to a rural village called Suurbraak and have since developed a small rescue centre for rescued and abused animals called Skarmunkels Animal Sanctuay. Rob has had many cats his entire life and of course includes his animals wherever he sees fit in his books. Nowadays they live with their animals and serve them wherever necessary, their lives are complete with feeding, cleaning and walking their cats, dogs, horses and goats. This relaxed lifestyle meant he could focus on other aspects of his life such as a cat psychologist and author

Rob gained deep affection for cats when he was gifted with his first kitten at the age of seven and has a solid foundation of working with them. Rob's approach is gentle and logical, he loves to help others with their feline problems, downloading the years of experience gained.

Rob also enjoys incorporating music themes into his work, another lifelong passion. He loves to introduce the youth to what was the golden age of popular music. His influences are vast and eclectic. His main love is for eighties post punk, a term that he believes is generic for a vast group of artists who were anything but unoriginal. Rob loves music with original and creative lyrics, a decent beat and distinctive tones. He is not a fan of imitative music such as R&B, most metal and what he likes to call gummyberry pop. He believes the right piece of music for any occasion will make it memorable.
