Writing comes naturally to Rob, and he gravitates toward young adults simply because most of his favourite authors are from this period. He loves classical children’s literature especially and has filled his bookshelves with Asterix, Tintin, The Lord of the Rings, Peter Rabbit, My family and Other Animals and of course James Herriott and Terry Pratchett. His other love is history, he believes that if we apply ourselves properly toward studying history and learning from our mistakes, the world would be in a much better place. He loves to incorporate elements of true happenings and characters in his writing. So don’t be surprised if you come across prohibition, corruption (a sad state of South African affairs), apartheid and even a military general who believed his legs were made of glass.

Rob also enjoys incorporating music themes into his work, another lifelong passion. He loves to introduce the youth to what was the golden age of popular music. His influences are vast and eclectic. His main love is for eighties post punk, a term that he believes is generic for a vast group of artists who were anything but unoriginal. Rob loves music with original and creative lyrics, a decent beat and distinctive tones. He is not a fan of imitative music such as R&B, most metal and what he likes to call gummyberry pop. He believes the right piece of music for any occasion will make it memorable.

So what are my books all about?

Welcome to my world, a world that is real in a fictitious sense. In my first series the Animalus Archipelago is filled with characters based on our own sanctuary of crazy animals, most of which are real, some of which are not. I love writing what I like to call soft fantasy for young adults and adults alike with a sense of humour that one adopts through the ebbs and flows of life. As in real life the characters like Capt'n Squiffalicious and his crew face many ups and downs, like the waves of the sea, but always come out on top, at least so I would like to imagine. The fantastic fact about the imagination is creativity begets creativity, in fact it breeds like little rabbits when it is fed. Who knows, maybe you will be writing a best seller one day with my inspirations or riding the high seas like a renegade against society.
